Minutes of meetings and teleconferences

The committee has established a pattern of working whereby there are three “formal” committee meetings each year with “internet discussions” in between these meetings.

We are particularly anxious that individuals with potentially good ideas do not feel ostracised and we are anxious for this subcommittee to be as inclusive as possible.

Medical Director, Alan Silman keeps in close contact with the group and will be attending another subcommittee meeting later this year.

It is clearly a work in progress but the response of the steering group members has been enthusiastic and each has been charged with contacting a wide variety of individuals within the UK interested in the disorders that they 'represent' to ensure that the steering group really does capture the widest possible representation of research interests.

The individual members of the steering group are constantly encouraged to look for ‘gaps in the current research portfolio. They also play a vital role by reviewing applications that come to the committee. We have deputies for each committee member and a patients’ representative (Joanne Koukis), though clearly no single patient will be able to represent the enormous range of the autoimmune rheumatic disorders alone.
