Reviewing PMR patients

Back to Hip and shoulder pain in older adults – PMR

Patients with suspected PMR should be offered regular reviews to:

  • check that glucocorticoid treatment is improving their symptoms – if the response to steroids is unsatisfactory, then you should reconsider the diagnosis
  • guard against the potential side-effects of glucocorticoid treatment and its effect on comorbid conditions
  • make sure the patient is aware of 'red flag' signs and symptoms which should be reported promptly.
