Team A runner LizzieSince 1981, the Great North Run has seen well over one million people run the world-famous route from Newcastle to South Shields, earning its place as the world’s favourite half marathon. With live bands and roaring crowds to carry you to the finish line, the Great North Run is a truly special experience.

How do I join Team A?

To secure a guaranteed charity place, simply click on the 'Join Team A' button below and complete our online registration form. There is a £25 registration fee and we ask for each of our runners to raise a minimum of £350 to support more people living with arthritis.

To join Team A, simply click on the 'Join Team A' button below and complete our online registration form. There is no minimum sponsorship commitment, we just ask you to raise as much as you can.

What do I get?

All our Team A runners receive:

  • an official welcome pack, including our Guide to Fundraising with tips and advice to help raise vital funds for Arthritis Research UK
  • top training, nutritional and health advice to make sure you’re ready for the big day
  • an official Arthritis Research UK orange running vest to wear on the big day with letters to spell out your name
  • unlimited support from the Arthritis Research UK events team before, during and after your challenge
  • an invitation to our charity marquee after the race 
  • dedicated Team A cheer point on the day around the route
  • access to our Team A Facebook group where you can share training tips and fundraising advice with your team mates before the big day

What else do I need to know?

You must:

  • be over the age of 17 years old on race day to take part in this event
  • you must be able to complete this event in 3hours

You can:

  • secure a guaranteed charity place and enter the ballot. Your charity place will be guaranteed for 2018. When the ballot is announced if you have been successful in securing your own place, we will transfer your registration type and you can set your own target
  • wait for the ballot announcement then if unsuccessful, secure a guaranteed charity place. Please note places are on a first come first served basis and are limited

You will:

  • receive a finisher’s pack that will contain a medal, t-shirt and space blanket
  • receive a race pack, timing chip and race number
You can’t:
  • get a refund for an independent place without a doctor’s note. This will need to be submitted at least 6 weeks prior to the event date
  • charity registration fees are not refundable
