Opening a bank account for executors

Filling in a formBefore you start collecting in your loved one’s assets, we recommend that you speak to a local bank about opening an executors’ account. This will help to keep the administration of the estate simple.

An executors’ account will help you to:

  • keep your loved one’s assets separate from your own and those of any co-executor(s)
  • pay any outstanding bills, such as telephone, water, newspapers
  • make any refunds due, such as the state pension.

Different banks will have different requirements for opening an executors’ account. Some may need you to already have the grant of probate.

The functionality of the account will also vary from bank to bank.
