How to submit a research proposal to the CSG

Most applications should be submitted at least 3 -4 months prior the Clinical studies deadlines so we have time to give you meaningful feedback. This EOI form may be submitted partially completed to facilitate initial engagement with the group. Its completion can then be an iterative, cumulative process in line with engagement with the CSG and as the study becomes more defined over time. The proposal flowchart (PDF 68 KB) provides information on the process of submission of an expression of interest through to application to Arthritis Research UK

Initial priorities for studies identified by the CSG are:

  • Studies examining the optimal vitamin D status in the young or elderly
  • Pilot data to inform future trials or studies of safety of long-term bisphosphonate use in the treatment of osteoporosis
  • Randomised controlled trial or observational studies of the value of monitoring of treatment for patients with osteoporosis with particular reference to quality of life
  • Studies examining treatment options in metabolic bone disease patients with poor renal function
  • Studies of new methods of detection of vertebral fractures and their effects on quality of life

Arthritis Research UK will funnel expressions of interest applications for clinical research in the above areas via the Steering Group for advice as to how the study matches the developing strategy and thereafter, if appropriate, a full application to carry out the project will be sent for International Peer Review as normal and then considered by the overarching Clinical Studies Subcommittee which is independent of the CSG.

If you would like to discuss submitting an expression of interest or have any suggestions as to new activities of the CSG please contact the chair. The expression of interest form is downloadable below:
