Research and Academic Capacity Committee

Purpose of the Research and Academic Capacity committee (RECAP)

The Research and Academic Capacity committee is responsible with providing advice and guidance on the career support offered by Arthritis Research UK for researchers. They oversee the resources and support provided by Arthritis Research UK to ensure that, in all relevant professional and scientific areas, there are sufficient individuals employed by appropriate organisations to deliver the charity’s research strategy.

RECAPs remit is:

1. To monitor the ongoing strength in terms of recruitment and retention to all necessary positions of relevance to the research and educational goals of Arthritis Research UK

2. To devise strategies to attract the brightest and most enthusiastic scientists and clinicians (both medical and non-medical) into research of arthritis and related musculoskeletal diseases

3. To identify career paths for all relevant areas and advise on strategies to support individuals at different stages of their careers

4. To work with others aiming to increase research and education capacity in the UK to maximise the benefit, for example, of the Walport and the Clinical Senior Lecturer schemes

5. To advise on infrastructure support for all relevant schemes

6. To oversee the Annual Fellows’ Meeting and initiate others as appropriate
