Group meetings
The group plans to meet quarterly but additional telephone
conference calls will be arranged if necessary.
We are particularly anxious that individuals with potentially
good ideas do not feel ostracised and we are anxious for this
subcommittee to be as inclusive as possible.
At the first meeting Professor Alan Silman was invited to come
along and explain his vision of how the new clinical trials
initiative will work.
It is clearly a work in progress but the response of the
steering group members has been enthusiastic and each has been
charged with contacting a wide variety of interested parties within
the UK for each of the disorders that they 'represent' to ensure
that the steering group really does capture the widest possible
representation of research interests.
The individual members of the steering group outlined a variety
of potential areas of interest in each of their fields of
specialty.
In the future we expect to complete our nominations of deputies
for each of the committee members and to appoint a patients
representative, though clearly no single patient will be able to
represent the enormous range of the autoimmune rheumatic disorders
alone.
