Team A Great North Run

As one of the longest running and most popular half marathons in the world, the Great North Run is a truly unforgettable experience. This iconic route begins in the heart of Newcastle, where you will follow in the footsteps of some of the world’s top athletes, before finally crossing the finish line on the beautiful North East coast.

How do I join Team A?

I have my own place

Congratulations on securing your place in the public ballot and thank you so much for choosing to support Arthritis Research UK. To register with Team A, click on the join Team A button below and select 'I already have a place'.

You just need to complete our short online registration form and one of the events team will be in touch to officially welcome you to the team. As you have secured your own place there is no minimum sponsorship target, we just ask that you raise as much you can.

Great North Run 2018

Secure a charity place

Entries for the Great North Run 2017 may have closed, but you can guarantee your place in 2018 with Team A today! Simply click on the 'join Team A' button below and select 'I would like a charity place'.

Each of our charity places has a £25 registration fee and a £350 minimum sponsorship target. Once you have completed this form, one of the Events Team will be in touch to finalise your registration.

Dont forget you can also enter the public ballot when it opens in January. If you're lucky enough to get a place, we'll simply transfer your entry and you can set your own target.

What do I get?

All our Team A runners receive:

  • an official welcome pack, including our Guide to Fundraising with tips and advice to help raise vital funds for Arthritis Research UK, sponsorship forms and posters to help promote your fundraising
  • top training, nutritional and health advice to make sure you’re ready for the big day
  • an official Arthritis Research UK orange running vest to wear on the big day with letters to spell out your name
  • unlimited support from the Arthritis Research UK events team before, during and after your challenge
  • an invitation to our charity marquee after the race 
  • dedicated Team A cheer point on the day around the route
  • access to our Great North Run Facebook group where you can share training tips and fundraising advice with your team mates before the big day

What else do I need to know?

You must:

  • be over the age of 17 years old on race day to take part in this event
  • you must be able to complete this event in 3hours

You can:

  • secure a guaranteed charity place and enter the ballot. Your charity place will be guaranteed for 2018. When the ballot is announced if you have been successful in securing your own place, we will transfer your registration type and you can set your own target
  • wait for the ballot announcement then if unsuccessful, secure a guaranteed charity place. Please note places are on a first come first served basis and are limited

You will:

  • receive a finisher’s pack that will contain a medal, t-shirt and space blanket
  • receive a race pack, timing chip and race number
You can’t:
  • get a refund for an independent place without a doctor’s note. This will need to be submitted at least 6 weeks prior to the event date
  • charity registration fees are not refundable
