SKI 306X

Effectiveness score in osteoarthritis is three out of five and in rheumatoid arthritis is two out of five. Safety classifcation is green.

SKI 306X is a mixture of three herbal medications prepared from Clematis mandshurica, Trichosantes kirilowii and Prunella vulgaris.

Laboratory and animal studies have found that SKI 306X prevents the destruction of proteoglycan and collagen which are important components of joint cartilage. Other studies have shown it can prevent the release of inflammatory substances in joints.

SKI 306X tablets are made in 200 mg tablets in Korea and Australia and can be purchased online. The suggested dosage is 600 mg per day in three separate doses.

Effectiveness

There is some evidence that SKI 306X may be effective in relieving pain related to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. One randomised controlled trial for osteoarthritis showed SKI 306X to be significantly more effective than a dummy pill (placebo), while another showed its effectiveness to be similar to that of the NSAID diclofenac. One trial in rheumatoid arthritis showed SKI 306X to be as effective as the NSAID celecoxib.

Safety

Interactions with other drugs haven’t been well studied.

Reported side-effects include heartburn and stomach upset. In the trials mentioned above, these side-effects occurred slightly more frequently in participants taking SKI 306X than in those taking celecoxib. However, the incidence of these side-effects was equal for participants taking SKI 306X and those taking diclofenac.
