The therapy section looks in-depth at how hydrotherapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy can help you with your arthritis, explaining what to expect, the benefits of each form of therapy and the referral process.

  • Hydrotherapy – the use of water in the treatment of a range of conditions, including arthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders. The warm temperature of the water allows your muscles to relax and eases the pain in your joints, helping you to exercise.
  • Occupational therapy – helps people who have difficulty with everyday activities because of illness or disability. An occupational therapist can tell you about specialist equipment or how to change the way you do things to ease pain and fatigue.
  • Physiotherapy – helps to improve general fitness and muscle strength, manage pain and restore or improve function in parts of the body affected by arthritis and related conditions. A physiotherapist can help you understand what happens to your joints and muscles when you have arthritis, which in turn helps to manage the effects of arthritis.
