Ciclosporin

What is ciclosporin?

Ciclosporin is a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD). It reduces the activity of your body’s defence system (immune system).

It’s used to treat auto-immune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and lupus (SLE).

It’s usually given in capsule form twice a day.

What are the possible side-effects?

In some patients ciclosporin can cause a rise in blood pressure and affect the kidneys. It can also affect your liver at high doses. Ciclosporin can sometimes cause increased levels of lipids (e.g. cholesterol) in the blood.
