Professor Martijn Steultjens

Martijn has been a Trustee of the Arthritis Care Board since 2016.

Martijn is from the Netherlands, where he studied to become a human movement scientist specialising in biomechanics and epidemiology. He later completed a PhD on causes of pain and disability in osteoarthritis patients. He is currently Chair in Musculoskeletal Health at Glasgow Caledonian University, leading research for long-term conditions, including musculoskeletal health.

He is closely involved with the Scottish Parliament’s cross-party work to improve health care for patients with chronic joint pain in Scotland. Martijn has also authored many scientific publications about rheumatology, orthopaedics, and rehabilitation medicine.

Outside of work, he enjoys cycling, camping trips with his family, and is a youth rugby coach.
